You’ve surely seen the telltale signs of something scary coming to Seattle. There’s a chill in the air, a hushed whisper in the coffee shops and bars, a shudder in the dog parks. Yes, it’s time for Halloween, the main event of the fall season! While you might be too old to partake in the trick or treating yourself, over at Wowzer we know that a dynamite costume for you and your dog is essential for all the hottest events here in Jet City. To assist in impressing all the local ghosts and ghouls you can find on Wowzer, we’ve put together a list of all the spookiest pet costume parties around the city. Many of these are contests as well, so make sure to put some extra effort into your look, and hopefully have your date howling at the moon.
Deep in their heart of hearts, every dog knows that they are born to be a star. Volunteer Park’s Halloween Pet Parade is a great opportunity to get your pooch up on the stage that you both know they belong on. Located at the center of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Volunteer Park will be transformed into a spooky parade of adorable animals. There will be prizes awarded to the best costumes in each of these six categories: Best Celebrity Pet, Best Dressed, Best Pet/Owner Combo, Best Stuffed Animal, Most Creative and Spookiest Pet. Pick your lane and hope you and your furry pal can bring home the fabulous prizes.
Downtown Dog Lounge is an excellent spot to leave your pup for daycare or obedience training, especially if you work Downtown. This Halloween, they’ve pulled out all the stops. Barktober Fest will be a more family-friendly antidote to the low-level debauchery present in other local Oktoberfests. This shindig will include a pie-eating contest, photo booth, and even a caricature artist that will provide a memento from a lovely date with a Wowzer match. If you’re the type who struggles with costume ideas, don’t stress; Downtown Dog Lounge is hoping to set a record for dogs wearing lion manes, so dress your hound up as the king of the jungle and join in the fun!
If a little low-level debauchery actually sounds like a good time, or if you’d rather start off a first date in a more traditional alcohol friendly atmosphere, head on up to Populuxe Brewing in Ballard for another excellent costume party. Sponsored by Parsons Team, a Seattle realty group, as well as excellent PNW pet supply chain Mudbay, this event will feature a litany of food trucks and a professional photographer, making for excellent first date fare. However, the main draw of this event is Populuxe itself. Billed as Seattle’s biggest beer garden, Populuxe is an award-winning, casual place that even features an arcade. What’s not to love?
We haven’t forgotten you, wine lovers! If you hope to treat your Wowzer match to a more refined atmosphere where you can still get your fill of cute dogs in cuter costumes, head down to Mercer Estates Tasting Room in Seattle’s trendy Georgetown neighborhood. While 2019 may technically be the year of the pig, local company Barrel Dogs has proclaimed 2019 as the year of the Frenchie and intends to honor French Bulldogs with heaps of cute merchandise for both you and your pup. If you don’t actually own a Frenchie yourself, they won’t hold it against you, all dogs of all breeds are welcome. Come and enjoy some free Mercer family wine, grown and produced right here in Washington. An excellent idea for those with a discerning pallet.
With so many options for Halloween fun, there’s no excuse for being a scaredy-cat! Download the Wowzer app and experience the best Seattle has to offer with that special someone. Don’t worry, they won’t bite.
